West Chester University’s women’s lacrosse team enters the 2009 campaign as the top-ranked team in Division II according to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association preseason poll, which was released earlier this week.

West Chester is the defending national champion from a year ago, defeating C.W. Post by a score of 13-12 in the championship game in Houston, Texas. The Golden Rams lose just one starter from last year’s squad as they look to capture the school’s third national crown in the last eight years.

Stephanie Salvitti, a senior at The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA and a member of the SEPA 2009 lacrossestephsalvittilacrosse program, signed a National Letter of Intent and will play for the West Chester University Golden Rams Women’s Lacrosse program beginning in the fall of 2009.

“I cannot wait to play for Coach Martino and a national championship team. The recruitment process was a terrific experience. On all of my visits to campus, I enjoyed meeting with the entire coaching staff and players, as well as the admission officers. I plan to pursue a career in physical therapy and look forward to starting my college experience at West Chester. I would also like to thank Coaches Simone and Norsoph and Mr. Sheperd for all of their support.”

Stephanie received All-Main Line Honors in lacrosse the last two seasons and is also a varsity starter in soccer and basketball. In addition, she has been a member of the Athletic Association for the past four years, a Lamplighter volunteer, and is currently one of the Senior Class representatives to the Baldwin School Alumnae Executive Board. Stephanie has also volunteered with the Special Olympics, SHARE, and the Susan G. Komen Society. She is the daughter of Edward and Karen Salvitti and a resident of West Chester, PA.
