Four Marin County (CA) Senior High School Lacrosse Student-Athletes Commit To Play NCAA Division I Lacrosse

A quartet of Marin natives have signed national letters of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse.

Tiburon’s Billy Mattimore is headed to Bucknell, Kevin Downs (San Rafael) will take his game to Mount St. Mary’s, and Tyler Simmons (Belvedere) plans to play at Hobart University.

Mattimore and Downs attend St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco, while Simmons goes to Redwood High.

The lone girl of the group, Kelly Lang of Mill Valley, is going to Cornell. Lang also attends St. Ignatius.

University Of Denver Women’s Lacrosse Loses To #3 Duke 17-8


denverwomenslacrossevsdukeThe game stayed close through the first 22 minutes, but The Blue Devils scored four-straight goals to end the first half and broke the game open with four more goals to start the second half.

Freshman Becca Steinberg (Millersville, Md.) scored two goals, the first of her collegiate career, but the No. 19 University of Denver women’s lacrosse team fell to No. 3 Duke, 17-8.

Senior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) recorded one goal and two assists, while senior Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) had one goal and an assist.

The Pioneers (0-2) scored their first goal when Coyne found the back of the net less than a minute into the game. Duke (1-0) evened the score at 24:11 with a goal by Duke All-American Carolyn Davis, assisted by Lindsay Gilbride.

Junior Lexi Sanders tallied another goal for DU, assisted by freshman Kaiti Delaney (Denver, Colo.) over the shoulder of Duke goalie Kim Imbesi at 20:47. The Blue Devils tied the game again with a goal by Emma Hamm at 16:39 past junior Katie Gold (Centennial, Colo.).

Duke’s Davis led all players with four goals and three assists, while Gilbride collected four goals and one assist.

The Pioneers next take on Canisius at Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday, February 15 at 3:30 p.m. Duke will battle Cal in a neutral site contest at Barton Stadium on Sunday at noon.
