Orange County High School Lacrosse: Foothill Knights Lacrosse Defeats El Toro Chargers 6-5 On April 2

Foothill Knights El Toro 2009El Toro Varsity Lacrosse Coach Richard Knox had the Chargers playing rival Foothill High School all even into the fourth quarter at home Thursday afternoon. El Toro led Foothill 3-1 at the end of the first half.

In a thrilling final seven minutes, the Knights scored 2 critical goals, the final goal by middie #2  Patrick Douglas proving to be the difference as Foothill improves to 8-3 on the season.

LaxBuzz was able to get Foothill Head Coach Jon Fox to comment on the game:

Foothill Knights Lacrosse Coach Jon Fox: “Tradition holds that it is a 1 goal game. In one of the oldest rivalry games in Orange County lacrosse, league foes ET and FHS had another exciting match up and it goes to show that nothing else matters when it is a rival game." LaxBuzz Photo

It was a great come from behind win for the Knights. We needed to prove to ourselves that we could overcome adversity late in a game and we did, and for that I’m pleased.

Overall our skill work in the game was the worst I’ve seen, especially the first half, when we couldn’t seem to catch or throw a ball. Both teams defenses and goalies played outstanding, and the 8 saves in the first quarter by ET Nick Carasco kept the momentum in ET favor, but numerous point blank saves by FHS goalie Nathan Kleponis, throughout all 4 quarters kept the chargers at bay and allowed FHS the opportunity to catch up and then go ahead….
FHS had great production from the sophomore class with Att Cam Cole scoring the 2 goals to bring it to a tie, and middie Coop Pickell scoring the go ahead goal…”

Orange County High School Girls Lacrosse: Beckman High School Girls Lacrosse Improves To 11-2 After 19-8 Win Over Corona Del Mar

beckmangirlslacrosseBeckman High’s girls lacrosse team continued its fast start Monday, defeating Corona del Mar, 19-8, in a Pacific Coast League match to improve its overall record to 11-2.

Beckman, ranked second in the county, also posted another league victory over University, 19-1, last week.

“It’s strange still being the new school in the area with an experienced lacrosse team,” said Beckman Coach Stacy Mathis-Colon. “Every day we have to challenge ourselves to get better.”

Mathis-Colon was also excited about the team’s recent 13-2 victory over crosstown rival Foothill.

“We played outstanding on both sides of the field,” Mathis-Colon said. “Callie LaFlam (our goal keeper) blocked shots like crazy. Ashley Miller and Allie Lehner controlled the midfield with their speed and skill and both scored a few goals. On attack, Brooke Thornton and Abbey Messmer led the way.”
