Foothill Knights Lacrosse coach Jon Fox had just watched an experienced, Senior-led blitzkreig. The Islanders were clearly amped with their own “Green Bull” with high levels of Vitamin B2….Bobby Braun…..He was too much in the first half and picked up in the second half where he left off…finding the back of the net. LaxBuzz reached Coach Fox and he had the following comments:

“Coronado is a great team, with great athletes, that came out and proved why they beat Saint Ignacious and La Costa Canyon.  We know were a better team than showed up the first half. Our guys had to take a look at themselves at half and decide what they were going to do about it. I was pleased with the second half, We won the second half and finished strong, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome.  We’re still waiting to put 4 great quarters together and when we do we’ll be back competing and winning those games with the best in the state.  We have an inexperienced Varsity team this year and its showed up in some of the bigger games, but with the tough schedule we’ve played I know these guys will be ready to bring it in playoffs….”

But the young Foothill Knights lacrosse squad would not “go gentle into that good night”. The Knights would rally and in a furious physical battle against the Islanders would outscore Coronado 7-2 over the remaining 14 1/2 minutes….

Stanford Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Cal Berkeley 18-13 In MPSF Final

stanfordwomenslacrosselauren-schmidt1Before the opening round of the MPSF tournament, Cal lacrosse coach Theresa Sherry mentioned that she wanted the second or third seed because she did not want to see Stanford until the final.

After the Bears surrendered 18 goals and were out-shot by 15 by the Cardinal in the championship game, it’s no wonder that Sherry wanted to avoid Stanford.

Cal traded goals with the Cardinal throughout the first half, but was eventually overpowered in a hard-fought, high-octane 18-13 loss in the MPSF Championship on Sunday.

Junior Alex Tickner assembled one of her finest games of the season, racking up six points on five goals and one assist, while junior Alyse Kennedy continued her offensive binge by netting three shots. Tickner, Kennedy and fellow junior DennaFaye Herald-who led the Bears with three assists-were named to the all-tournament team.

The rivalry-game intensity was radiant with a conference championship on the line, and both teams played the opening 25 minutes with palpable vigor.

After the teams traded the first eight goals, a wild series of events in the 18th minute saw Cal sophomore midfielder Taryn Olson red-carded, the Bears’ bench yellow-carded and Stanford repeat a free-position shot three different times-each to no avail.
