Meet the new 22 Cody Jamieson describes the change as “no big deal.” Yes, he’s wearing the storied No. 22 this season. He understands the history behind the number and called it “a privilege to put it on my back.”

Gary Gait and all three Powell brothers made No. 22 a jersey synonymous with lacrosse success at Syracuse. Dan Hardy wore it the previous four years. Jamieson wore 22 when he played for OCC.

“It’s just a number in my book. If I had a choice, I’d probably take 88 — that’s my box number and it’s been my number since I was little,” Jamieson said. “But obviously the numbers don’t go up that high.”

 Jamieson opted, instead, for 22.

“He talked to Coach Simmons about it,” Desko said, “and the spot was open and no one else really asked for it. If he’s willing and he’s up for the challenge, we’ll see. We’ll see how he does. He’s had a good fall so far. … We have 51 players and 48 jerseys, so somebody’s gotta wear it.”
