NCAA Men’s Lacrosse: “Inside Lacrosse” July 2010 Issue Features Duke Men’s Lacrosse National Championship Highlights

After three frustrating seasons of losses in the final four, Duke finally brought home the NCAA championship, topping Notre Dame 6-5 in overtime. IL was there to capture the entire ride from the first round dismantling of Johns Hopkins to the down-to-the-wire performances in the final four. We also break down Notre Dame’s Cinderella run through the tournament and what they did both offensively and defensively to advance to the finals. The July issue also looks back on past NCAA Tournaments to see if this was the best since the tournament expanded to 16 teams in 2003 and recaps Tufts’ and C.W. Post’s championship wins as well as Maryland’s come-from-behind victory over Northwestern in the women’s final.

For the first time since the early 1990s, there is a new champion in men's Division I lacrosse, as Duke takes home its first title after several close calls in recent seasons. IL staff covers all the angles from the Blue Devils' run, as well as Maryland's women, C.W. Post at DII and Tufts' first-ever DIII championship.

San Diego Boys Club Lacrosse Profile: Jake Seau, Son Of NFL All-Pro Linebacker Junior Seau, Played Middie For San Diego All-Stars Lacrosse Team

Jake Seau is playing his second year of lacrosse. He also plays football, not surprisingly as a linebacker and running back. He said the fact that his father is a professional athlete drives him to do better in sports.

Fourteen-year-old Jake Seau jogged to meet his dad Saturday at the 2010 US Lacrosse U15 Lax Fest, presented by Warrior, just moments after his team won its game on a last-minute goal. His father, NFL linebacker Junior Seau, knows a thing or two about sports.

“I like coming out here. I like the competition,” said Jake, a midfielder on the San Diego All-Stars. “If we can stand up to kids from Maryland and New York, it really gives us that confidence we need to excel in what we’re doing in San Diego.”

This is Jake’s second year playing lacrosse. He also plays football, not surprisingly as a linebacker and running back. He said the fact that his father is a professional athlete drives him to do better in sports.

“Having my dad be a professional player in the NFL and still come here and support me playing not just football, but my other sports like this, it’s great,” Jake said.

According to Jake Seau’s coach, Scott O’Donnell, 80 boys from several San Diego-area schools tried out for the 22-member San Diego All-Stars.
