The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will open up the 2011 season on the road against national powerhouse Syracuse, DU head coach Bill Tierney announced today. The 2011 schedule also features a neutral site matchup against defending national champions Duke, and the Pioneers will look to defend their 2010 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship when they host the inaugural ECAC Tournament in May.
“We are very excited about our 2011 schedule,” Tierney said. “Although we are very proud of our accomplishments in 2010, we are aware that we have a lot to live up to and much room for improvement in the future. A tough schedule allows the players to compete at the highest level and playing the best in the game, allows them to see what it takes to ‘be the best in the game.’ We couldn’t be more excited to face the challenge our 2011 schedule presents.”
“Our non-league schedule is highlighted by some of the toughest competition in the country,” Tierney said. “We start once again, by visiting Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. This is a formidable task, yet one that our players are looking forward to again.”
Following their game with the Orange, the Pioneers return to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium for a four-game home stand beginning on Feb. 27 which features matchups with Vermont, Jacksonville, Manhattan and last year’s national championship runner-up Notre Dame.
