Major League Lacrosse: MLL’s Decision To Hold Lacrosse Draft In January Is Controversial As It Could Be “A Big Distraction For Seniors As It Detracts From The College Experience” (Video)

After last month’s announcement that Major League Lacrosse will hold its draft in January instead of June, Syracuse University senior lacrosse players are looking forward to finding out their future in the sport before beginning their final season. CitrusTV’s David DeGuzman talks to players and head coach John Desko about the pros and cons of the early draft date.

Colorado High School Boys Lacrosse: The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) Votes To Add “Class 4A” State Lacrosse Championship For Smaller Schools

The Colorado High School Activities Association’s Board of Control voted 57-8 on Thursday morning to add a second classification for boys lacrosse at the first of two meetings this year.

By passing the amendment, there will be a 4A and 5A classification. Class 4A will be for schools with an enrollment up to 1,410 students, and more than that will be 5A.

This spring, there will be 64 schools playing boys lacrosse across eight leagues with 24 teams making the playoffs. The proposal pitches a 16-team postseason bracket in both classifications, though that ruling hasn’t been finalized.

“The large number between the largest schools and the smallest school made it pretty much impossible for the little schools to compete with the big schools,” CHSAA commissioner Paul Angelico said.

Concussions In Lacrosse: Hospital Studies Show “40% Of Prep Athletes Return From Concussions Before They Are Fully Healed”

“I actually kept playing because I had the ball and I didn’t really think anything had happened.”

But something had happened, a concussion, which put Chloe on the bench for months.

According to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, one concussion, then another too soon could lead to second impact syndrome, which could lead to death. Sadly, 40 percent of prep athletes return from concussions before they are fully healed.

High school student Chloe Jeng’s got a wicked wrist shot, but a shot to her head during a club lacrosse game is what ruined her season.

Chloe said, “I actually kept playing because I had the ball and I didn’t really think anything had happened.”

But something had happened, a concussion, which put Chloe on the bench for months.

According to the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities, one-million kids suffer similar concussions each year.

Chloe said, “I mostly just wanted to get back in the game and start playing again.”

It is good that she did not. According to the University of Buffalo, 80 percent of all concussion cases are diagnosed as mild, but 75 percent of patients do not seek medical help unless their condition gets worse.

Dr. Michael Yochelson, MD, at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, said, “You can’t take sports away from everybody … you can’t take being in-or-near a motor vehicle away from everybody.”

The best remedy for someone who has had a concussion is bed rest and a trip to the doctor.
