NCAA Women’s Lacrosse: #10 Notre Dame Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Cal Berkeley 20-6 To Open Season And Faces #13 Stanford On Sunday
Twelve different Irish players scored goals in the game with sophomore midfielder Jenny Granger leading the way with a career-high six-point game on four goals and two assists. Five of her teammates – Maggie Tamasitis, Ansley Stewart, Kaitlin Keena, Kailene Abt and Kaitlyn Brosco – had two goals in the game while Megan Sullivan, Shaylyn Blaney, Betsy Mastropieri, Jaime Morrison, McKenzie Brown and Emily Conner had one goal each in the win.
Tara Arolla led the Bears with three goals while Megan Takacs added two goals and Gina Holslag one in the loss.
The win makes the 10th-ranked Irish 1-0 on the young season while Cal falls to 0-1. Notre Dame continues its season-opening west coast trip on Sunday, Feb. 13, when the Irish visit 13th-ranked Stamford at 11:00 a.m. (PT).

Senior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) tallied a career-high eight points and the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (1-0) scored 11 straight goals in the first half in a 19-7 victory over George Mason (0-1) Friday evening at UMBC Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
George Mason midfielder Allie Hilderbrandt put the Patriots on the board first just 47 seconds into the game, but the Retrievers responded with 11 unanswered goals over the next 19 minutes to take control of the game.
Junior attack Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) started the offensive barrage with back-to-back goals. Junior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron/Duquesne) scored three times during the run, while Braerman and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) both tallied twice.
