MCLA Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of Michigan State Men’s Lacrosse 10-7 Victory Over BYU On March 19

The extra man offense for Michigan State continued to have success when Baily opened up scoring in the second quarter with a low shot after a BYU slashing penalty, making it 5-3.

BYU tallied their last goal of the half before Sophomore midfielder Spencer Martin got on the board with his first goal of the game late in the second. Senior Captain Connor Bush found fellow Senior Dan Witt on the back side to go into halftime with a 7-4 lead. On the assist, Connor commented “I noticed they were sliding early and I was able to find Dan on the crease, he knows what to do from there.”

In the second half, Brigham Young was the first to strike with five minutes left in the third quarter. The first ten minutes consisted of back and forth possessions with outstanding play from the MSU man down defense, which finished the game without allowing a single goal. Junior faceoff specialist Scott Wisniewski drew a penalty before finding defensive midfielder Alex Gage who answered on a fast break for MSU. Before the end of the third, BYU was able to add two more goals and narrow the Spartan lead to one, 8-7.

Pat Nemes found Michael Baily early in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to two before the MSU defense killed off two more penalties. Goalie Smith Atwood made several big saves late in the game on shots from the doorstep. Bush put in the last goal of the game with six minutes left and MSU held off any late rallies by BYU to end the game with a 10-7 final.

Senior Captain Mike Schneider commented after the game, “This was a good program win for us. We haven’t beaten BYU as long as we’ve been here and it was nice to have such a great crowd tonight to enjoy it with us.”

The Spartans will play their first home game in East Lansing at Ralph Young Field on Thursday at 7pm against nationally ranked University of California Santa Barbara
