NCAA Div III Lacrosse: Colorado College Men’s Lacrosse (12-0) Captures First Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Postseason Title With 8-6 Victory Over Birmingham-Southern

Birmingham-Southern’s defensive game plan was sound, but it couldn’t hold off Colorado College’s potent offense forever.

Tigers men’s lacrosse eventually punched a few holes in a stout Panthers zone defense to win the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason championship, 8-6, Sunday afternoon at Washburn Field.

CC qualified for its first trip to the NCAAs in the program’s 57 years with a semifinal win Friday but it didn’t make Sunday’s victory any less sweet.

“It’s great to have all the work payoff,” said CC junior James Mauk, who finished with three goals.

“It’s a tremendous moment for the program,” Tigers coach Guy Van Arsdale said.

The NCAA Division IIII tournament pairings will be announced on May 8.

For CC (12-0), it was waiting for gaps to open up between tiring defenders. The Tigers controlled possession by winning 13 of 17 faceoffs and by committing fewer turnovers than BSC (29-20) to sustain offensive pressure.

Ivy League Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of Harvard Men’s Lacrosse 9-8 Comeback Victory At Princeton On April 23

Dean Gibbons scored three times and assisted on three other tallies, while goalie Harry Kriegerrecorded 15 saves, as the Harvard men’s lacrosse team earned a 9-8 comeback victory at Princeton Saturday afternoon. With the win, Harvard improves to 2-3 in Ivy League play and remains in contention for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament May 6-8.

Matt Hull also added a hat trick for the Crimson, which sees its record move to 8-5 overall, marking the second time in three seasons Harvard has won at least eight games. Princeton sees its overall record fall to 4-7, and drops to 2-3 in conference action. The Crimson has now defeated the Tigers in two straight seasons for the first time since taking three straight against its Ancient Eight rival from 1986-88.

Harvard will close out its regular season by hosting Yale at Harvard Stadium Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. The Crimson’s seven seniors (Noor Beckwith, Francis Ellis, Dean Gibbons, Greg Gilroy, Matt Hull, Andrew Parchman and Sam Steyer) will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day. If the Crimson defeats the Bulldogs, Harvard will automatically clinch a spot in the Ivy League tournament and could still qualify for the Ivy postseason with a loss with help in other conference contests. Cornell won the Ivy League title and will host the Ancient Eight Tournament.
