“Duel In Denver” On Sept 8 Features Team USA Men’s Lacrosse Vs Team Canada In Rematch Of 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championship Game

The “Duel in Denver” is a rematch of the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship gold-medal game, in which Team USA defeated Canada, 12-10, in Manchester, England, and it serves as a prelude to the 2014 FIL World Championships, which will be hosted by US Lacrosse in Denver, July 10-19, 2014. The U.S. and Canada have met in the championship game of the last four FIL World Championships. US Lacrosse has announced that midfielder Joe Walters (Maryland ’06/Hamilton Nationals) has been added to the U.S. men’s national senior team roster for the “Duel in Denver.” The addition of Walters rounds out the 25-player Team USA squad that will face Team Canada Sept. 8, 2012, in a 7:00 p.m. (Mountain time) exhibition game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. Walters, the Nationals’ all-time leading scorer, was a member of the silver medal-winning 2006 U.S. men’s national team and the 2009 U.S. men’s national training team. In his third season with Hamilton, Walters currently ranks first on the Nationals and fourth in the MLL in scoring with 42 points.

In 2010 when Bayhawks owner Brendan Kelly made a mid season coaching change he took over the reigns himself. It ended up working out as the team went on to capture the MLL Championship that year. Kelly remained coach in 2011 but in the off season he felt it was best if he focused on being an owner. He hired former Maryland head coach Dave Cottle as head coach. Cottle then put together an All-Star coaching staff. That group is the focus of this week’s Ford Spotlight Feature.
