The No. 4/4 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team had three student-athletes finish with hat tricks to help the Pioneers to a 14-5 win over Hobart on the road in Geneva, N.Y., at Boswell Field on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Pioneers to 7-2 on the season, 3-0 in Eastern College Athletics Conference play, while Hobart falls to 4-5 on the season, 1-2 in league play.
The Pioneers’ 7-2 start matches Denver’s best start to a season since 2011.
“We’re happy with the win,” said head coach Bill Tierney. “More importantly, it was a complete team effort from every player on the team as we prepared for and played this game. Our goalies were fantastic and Harley did an outstanding job filling in for Drew.”
Sophomore Wesley Berg (Coquitlam, B.C.) led the Pioneers with five points off three goals and two assists, bringing his career hat trick total to nine. Berg now has 29 goals on the season, leading the Pioneers. Sophomore Eric Adamson (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) finished with four points off three goals and an assist, while senior Cameron Flint (Georgetown, Ontario) finished with three goals for his 10th career hat trick.
