With just three regular season games left this year, the defending MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks look to serve the Denver Outlaws with their first loss of the season. The Bayhawks travel to Denver to face off against the Outlaws at Sports Authority Field at Mile High this Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
The Denver Outlaws and Chesapeake Bayhawks last met during Week 7 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium when the Outlaws defeated the Bayhawks 13-9. Denver’s rookie attackman Eric Law shined netting a total of five goals on five shots. The Outlaws offense was further bolstered by a hat trick from midfielder Jeremy Sieverts and attackman Brendan Mundorf’s goal and two assists. Denver goalie Jesse Schwartzman held off the experienced Chesapeake offense putting up 17 saves. Seven Bayhawks contributed to the team’s overall nine goals with midfielder Matt Abbott netting two and attackman Drew Westervelt putting up one goal and two assists. Chesapeake goalie Kip Turner had an outstanding 19 saves between the pipes, holding the Outlaws to one of their lowest scoring games all season.
Chesapeake is currently ranked third in the league with a 7-4 record. The Bayhawks possess one of the most experienced and formidable defenses in the entire league. All-Star goalie Turner ranks second in the league with 145 saves between the pipes and a 10.05 GAA. Offensively, Chesapeake is ranked second in scoring with 142 goals netted this season. Ranked fourth in the league, Westervelt leads the Bayhawks with 25 goals so far this season followed by veteran attackman Ben Rubeor’s 24 goals. Part of what sets apart Chesapeake’s offense is their 2-point goals, the Bayhawks rank second in the league with twelve 2-point goals. If Chesapeake can step up offensively they have a real shot at outscoring Denver.
