Club Lacrosse: “2014 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships” To Be Held In Aurora, CO On July 21-23; 32 Boys & Girls Lacrosse Teams To Compete
3d Select National (Colo.) became the first team with a majority of players from the West to win the boys’ national championship in 2013, while the Long Island Top Guns (N.Y.) girls won their first national championship after falling in the semifinals in 2011 and 2012. The 2013 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships drew 56 teams from 22 states.
Teams that participate in the championships may purchase discounted tickets to the July 17-19 playoff games of the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Men’s World Championships, which US Lacrosse is hosting at nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver.
“We are thrilled to team with Visit Aurora to bring our signature youth tournament to the West for the first time, and to give our U15 teams the opportunity to experience the once-in-a-lifetime FIL World Championships,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “In addition to high-level competition, our youth tournaments emphasize sportsmanship and building relationships among teammates and opponents. Players, coaches and families will have the chance to connect with the world lacrosse community when they attend the World Championships.”
The 2014 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships will extend automatic invitations to the top four teams and “Keeper of Lacrosse” Sportsmanship Award winner at the 2013 event, the top four teams at each US Lacrosse Regional Championship in 2014 (dates and sites below), and a limited number of at-large teams via an application process. Team registration for regional championships and application forms for at-large bids are expected to be available at uslacrosse.org in September.
“Aurora is thrilled to host the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships at Aurora Sports Park,” said Gary Wheat, president and CEO of Visit Aurora. “This is a wonderful event that will introduce our city to US Lacrosse and the high level of competition associated with these championships.”
Aurora Sports Park is a 220-acre site that includes 23 fields, seven picnic shelters and five concession areas. It becomes the third venue to host the championships, joining Cedar Lane Park (Bel Air, Md., in 2009) and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex (Lake Buena Vista, Fla., in 2010-13).
