The Colorado Mammoth and 3d Lacrosse announced today the joining of forces to launch the Colorado Box Lacrosse League, the definitive future of youth and high school box lacrosse in the state of Colorado.
The new league will be jointly owned, operated and managed by the two undisputed leaders in box lacrosse in the state. The Colorado Mammoth brings a world of assets including: professional players, the Pepsi Center, event management expertise, and associated resources to the partnership. 3d Lacrosse brings world-class training, leagues, club teams and event operations to the venture. Together, the new league sets a standard for box lacrosse that the combined parties believe is unsurpassed both locally and nationally.

NCAA Lacrosse: High Point Men’s Lacrosse 2014 Schedule Features Towson, Michigan, UMBC, Bellarmine, Duke, North Carolina And Drexel

The High Point University men’s lacrosse team will play a challenging schedule in its second season. The Panthers will play their first season as part of the Atlantic Sun Conference and face a tough non-conference slate that includes defending the NCAA champion Duke.
“We are very fortunate to have great programs coming to Vert Stadium this season, including Duke and North Carolina,” said head coach Jon Torpey. “Anytime you can play the defending national champion at home it is a great thing for the program. I am very excited to play our first season in the Atlantic Sun. The chance to win a conference championship and advance to the NCAA tournament gives the team an extra something to work toward.”

NCAA Lacrosse: High Point Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Jon Torpey Discusses 2014 Outlook (Video)

The High Point University men’s lacrosse team began fall practices this week in preparation for the 2014 season. The Panthers will cap off the fall practice period with a weekend in Maryland to face Navy and the MLL’s Chesapeake Bayhawks.

High Point Men's LacrosseHPU began official full-team practices this week after taking part in individual workouts since the beginning of school. The Panthers will play an instrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 4. High Point will travel to Maryland on Oct. 12 for scrimmages with Navy and the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

“We started out with mostly individual development, working on riding and clearing and really put an emphasis on our transition game,” said head coach Jon Torpey. “Actually having upperclassmen this year is a huge help. Practices are moving faster and it is great that we have guys in leadership roles. A lot of the guys who were here last year are stepping up as leaders and it is helping practice flow a lot smoother.

In January the Panthers will scrimmage Marquette at Vert Stadium before the season begins. The game will be Jan. 25 at noon. The season kicks off at Delaware on Feb. 1. HPU’s home opener is on Feb. 15 against St. Joseph’s at 1 p.m.

The Panthers return 32 players from last year’s inaugural team including senior captains Bucky Smith and Garrett Swaim. Sophomore Dan Lomas also returns as the team’s leading goal scorer (36 goals) and junior Matt Thistle is back after leading the team with 42 points on 19 goals and 23 assists last year. Redshirt-junior Austin Geisler is back after starting 14 games in goal for HPU. He averaged 12.78 goals per game for the Panthers.

The 2-Time MLL MVP finished 3rd in the MLL in scoring with 32 Goals 19 Assists and 3 2pt Goals in 2013. The Boston Cannons Captain was also named an MLL All-Star for the 6th time in his 6 year career and passed the 50 Point mark for the 4th time.

Bowling Green had a varsity men's lacrosse program from 1965 to 1979 that was one of the most successful in NCAA history, winning over 75 percent of its games. The team competed in the Midwest Lacrosse Association that included Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and Denison.
