Stanford has received a first-round bye in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s lacrosse tournament and will open play Friday in the semifinals in Denver.
Stanford (13-3 overall, 7-2 MPSF) completed its regular season with an 18-7 victory over California on Thursday, but needed a loss by Oregon in either of the Ducks’ final two games to receive a first-round bye in the six-team conference event.
The Ducks obliged Friday, with an 11-5 loss to first-place Denver, ensuring that the winning Pioneers will receive the No. 1 seed at home. Oregon lost again on Sunday, to Colorado, 10-9, finalizing the seeding.
Stanford has won eight of the past nine MPSF tournament titles. The tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
