1. Cherry Creek (Colo.), 12-3
The Bruins entered the Colorado state playoffs as the top seed in Class 5A and beat Rock Canyon (Colo.) 12-5 in the quarterfinals. Cherry Creek advances to the semifinals against Kent Denver (Colo.), which beat Colorado Academy (Colo.) 6-5.
2. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.), 19-1
The Knights extended their winning streak to 14 games with a 18-11 victory over Temecula Great Oak (Calif.) and a 13-8 win over San Clemente (Calif.). Both of those opponents have 16 wins on the season. Foothill has another tough game May 14 against J Serra Catholic (Calif.), which is 17-4.
3. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 16-1
The Raiders are the second seed in the Colorado Class 5A state playoffs and beat Mullen (Colo.), 11-6, in the quarterfinals. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Regis Jesuit scored five times and held a 5-2 lead at the break and then held Mullen scoreless in the final period. The Raiders advance to the semifinals against Arapahoe (Colo.), which beat Mountain Vista (Colo.) 12-11.
4. Issaquah (Wash.), 15-3
The Eagles knocked off Eastlake (Wash.) 16-2 an then Bainbridge Island (Wash.) 6-2. Issaquah finished up the regular season against Skyline (Wash.) and Roosevelt (Wash.) and will fight for one of the top seeds in the state tournament.
5. Cathedral Catholic (Calif.), 16-2
The Dons knocked off Scripps Ranch (Calif.), 8-2, extending their wining streak to 13 games. Cathedral Catholic finished up the regular season with a tough matchup against a 12-4 Coronado (Calif.) team.
6. Bellevue (Wash.), 16-2
The Wolverines handed Mercer Island (Wash.) its first loss in Washington State, 9-8. Goals by Augie Fratt and Hank Bethke gave Bellevue a 9-6 lead midway through the fourth quarter and the Islanders withstood a late rally to pull out the win. The Wolverines close out the regular season May 16 against Mount Si (Wash.).
7. St. Ignatius (Calif.), 13-5
The Wildcats closed out the season with a 9-5 victory over Bellarmine Prep (Calif.) to win the West Catholic Athletic League. St, Ignatius put together another tough schedule, which included three games against East Coast teams that have been nationally ranked. The Wildcats also defeated teams from Oregon and Arizona.
8. Coronado (Calif.), 12-4
The Islanders beat rival La Costa Canyon (Calif.) 11-10 and then took down Torrey Pines (Calif.), 14-10, in another key battle. Coronado has another tough battle this week against No. 5 Cathedral Catholic.
9. Eastside Catholic (Wash.), 15-0
The Crusaders impressive campaign continued with a dominant 19-2 victory over Snohomish (Wash.). Eastside Catholic followed that up with 18-0 over Lakeside (Wash.). The Crusaders will try to close out a perfect regular season with a game against Nathan Hale (Wash.) on May 13.
10. J Serra Catholic (Calif.), 17-4
The Lions took on a 15-2 Corona del Mar (Calif.) team with a hard-fought 9-8 victory. That avenged an 8-5 loss to the Sea Kings earlier in the season. J Serra Catholic advances to play No. 2 Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.).
Cherry Creek flexed its muscle as the top team in Colorado in the regular season and Bruins have kept the swagger going in the post season Cherry Creek dropped Rock Canyon 12-4 in the Colorado 5A state quarterfinals and improved to 14-3 on the season. Ryan Arthur (Mercer) led the way with three goals and three assist. Mikey McCauley also added three goals, while Henry Adams and Max Tennant scored twice. The Bruins are the top seed in the tournament and play Rock Creek in the semifinals. Arapahoe plays Regis Jesuit in the other semifinal.
Desert Vista won their first state championship with a 10-8 victory over Brophy Prep. Desert Vista became the first team since 2003 other than Brophy Prep and Chaparral (Ariz.) to win the state championship. Anthony Abbadessa led Desert Vita with five goals and two assists. Desert Vista, which won its previous title in 2000, finished the season 17-0.
