Major League Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of Chesapeake Bayhawks 13-12 Win Over Hamilton Nationals In “2013 MLL Championship” Semifinals

The Chesapeake Bayhawks defeated the Hamilton Nationals 13-12 in a back-and-forth game to reach the MLL Championship Game, at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on Saturday. The Bayhawks will look to repeat as champions against the fourth seeded Charlotte Hounds.

Michael Kimmel lead the way for the Bayhawks with four points, While Ben Hunt and John Grant Jr. added three of their own in an intense game that featured six ties and four lead changes. Joe Walters paced the way for the Nationals and had a game-high five points on two goals and three assists.

Kimmel got the defending champs on the board first with a two-point rip that beat Brett Queener from deep. However, the Nationals scored the next three goals to take a 3-2 goal into the first break.

Josh Amidon scored the first goal on an assist from Walters before 2013 MLL MVP Kevin Crowley scored and then assisted on a Martin Cahill man-up goal with just under 20 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Hunt opened the second quarter by driving to his left through the Nationals defense and putting a shot past Queener to put an end to the Hamilton run. But two quick goals by Kevin Cunningham and Cahill put the nationals back on top 5-3.

Once again, Hunt scored a lefty goal to draw the Bayhawks back within one. Another man-up goal, this time by Cunningham, put the Nationals back up by two, but goals by John Grant Jr. and Drew Westervelt evened the score at six heading into halftime.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (14-0) Roll Over Hamilton Nationals 18-12 On August 10 To Complete Perfect Regular Season

Denver Outlaws defeat Hamilton Nationals

It has been 413 days since the Outlaws lost a regular-season game.
The team won its 20th-consecutive regular-season contest by a score of 18-12 on Saturday at Hamilton to finish the season 14-0, becoming the first team in Major League Lacrosse history to go undefeated for an entire season.
Denver became just the fourth major North American professional sports team to finish a regular season without a loss, joining the 2007 New England Patriots (16-0) and 1972 Miami Dolphins (14-0) of the NFL as well as the 1948 Calgary Stampeders (14-0) of the CFL.
Along the way to their perfect season, the Outlaws etched their names on the league’s single-season records list in several categories. The team’s 226 goals ranked third in MLL history, while the 136 goals allowed ranked fifth in league annals.
Goalie Jesse Schwartzman broke a MLL GAA record that he’d set previously in 2009, lowering the mark from 9.87 to 9.67. His .597 save percentage set a new club record and ranked eighth in league history.
On the offensive end, Eric Law scored four goals, including a two-pointer, in Denver’s win at Hamilton to push his season total to 24. His 24 goals is a new team rookie record and ties Paul Rabil for fourth-most by a rookie in league history.
Chris Bocklet also added four goals in the win to push his season total to a league-high 42. He added an assist to finish with 55 points for the season, which is tied for the league lead. Bocket’s 42 goals set a new team record and his 55 points rank second in club history.
The Outlaws used a 9-0 run that included a pair of two-pointers to jump out to a 11-2 lead midway through the second quarter against the penalty-plagued Nationals.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws Attempt To Complete A Perfect Regular Season At Hamilton Nationals In Matchup Of MLL’s Top Two Teams

Denver Outlaws vs Hamilton Nationals

The undefeated Denver Outlaws will travel to Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario, to face the Hamilton Nationals (9-4) and finish out the 2013 season.
This will be the eleventh all-time regular season meeting between the Nationals and Outlaws, with Denver winning all but one match. These teams last met in June in the battle of the undefeated teams. Denver dismantled Hamilton with a 22-9 victory led by Brendan Mundorf’s seven-point game and Eric Law’s introduction to the League with four goals on four shots.
The Outlaws will attempt a perfect regular season, a feat that has never been done by an MLL team. Although Denver has preserved its record up to this point, for the second week in a row Denver used the fourth quarter to earn the victory. The Outlaws have outscored opponents 8-3 in the fourth quarter in the past two weeks, each time entering the final frame tied.
Additionally, in recent weeks Denver’s midfield has stepped up as the main scoring option. Jeremy Sieverts has had seven goals in the past two games, Terry Kimener had a four-point game against New York and Drew Snider had a four-point game against Chesapeake. The Outlaws’ attack unit was held pointless in week 12 against Chesapeake.
Hamilton enters the weekend after dropping a game 14-11 to Charlotte. Despite three two-point goals from the Nationals and a five-point game from Kevin Crowley, the Hounds earned the victory and their place in Championship Weekend.
Denver and Hamilton each boast some of the best offensive players in the League. Denver’s Chris Bocklet leads the League in goals (38) and points (50). Crowley sits in second for both of those categories with 35 goals and 49 points. The Nationals’ Joe Walters is first in the League with 24 assists, and his teammate Kevin Cunningham is second in assists with 22.

In a battle of the best, the Denver Outlaws came out on top. The Outlaws handed the Hamilton Nationals, who entered the matchup as the only other unbeaten team in the league, a 22-9 defeat Saturday evening in front of 4,796 fans at Mile High Stadium. Denver reached the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this year, breaking the franchise single-season record.
“In all my time [in the MLL], I can’t remember a team going 6-0 to start the season,” said faceoff specialist Anthony Kelly. “It’s a great step in the right direction. It’s a step for us to go to that next level and continue moving forward, and hopefully we stay at that No. 1 spot the rest of the way.”
In his MLL debut following his graduation from the University of Denver earlier in the day, Eric Law was named the Player of the Game. The attackman netted four goals after earning the starting nod in the second half.
“To be able to get the opportunity to play [at Mile High Stadium] from [general manager] Tony Seaman and Coach [Stagnitta] is unbelievable and a lifelong dream come true for sure,” he said.
Three other Outlaws—Zack Greer, Drew Snider and Brendan Mundorf—also posted four-goal performances to lead the team to victory in Saturday’s game. Kelly won the faceoff battle, going 20-of-33 at the X.
