Western High School Boys Lacrosse Recruiting: 8th Annual Adrenaline “High Rollers” Scheduled For Nov. 20-21 In Coronado, CA
The 8th annual High Rollers program will take place November 20th-21st. Once again, the Clinic Directors will be Notre Dame Coaches and NCAA runners up Kevin Corrigan & Gerry Byrne. Whittier Head Coach Brian Kelly will serve as program director.
Coronado has long been known for its top ranked beaches, picturesque sunsets and warm and welcoming community flavor. This small “Island” is only 7.5 square miles and 2 miles across the bay from downtown San Diego. After years of development, Coronado has more recently become one of the epicenters of western lacrosse.
The 2009 Islanders Varsity team finished ranked #1 in the West and #24 in the country. Mitts have been replaced by sticks, fields are riddled with lacrosse goals with tattered nets and if you look in any bush in the neighborhood you are likely to find a lacrosse ball. This “Lacrosse Island” provides for a perfect setting for the next Adrenaline Primetime Recruiting Event, the coveted High Rollers program.
As per usual, this event will see the top players from every pocket of lacrosse in the West gather in one place to compete for 2 days in front of 40-50 NCAA & MCLA recruiters. While the Adrenaline Showcase, the first part of the two part Adrenaline Premier Recruiting Event Series, which takes place in July at Sonoma State University, is the most exclusive event in the west, High Rollers comes in at a close second.
This exclusive program has players whom are invited based off of college and high school coaches’ recommendations. Players hail from; Western Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Colorado, Nevada, California, Texas, Missouri & Arizona.
Western Lacrosse Recruiting: Adrenaline Lacrosse “High Rollers Camp” To Feature 250 Of The Top Western High School Lacrosse Players At Whittier College On Nov. 20-22
There is no setting more fit for the Adrenaline High Rollers Camp (Nov. 20-22) and the top 250 players in the western United States than Whittier College. The westernmost of only a handful of NCAA programs in the West, Whittier is the sole NCAA Division III program in California. Whittier also has the distinct honor of being the most successful NCAA program in the West.
Since becoming sanctioned in 2000, Whittier has been ranked in the Top 20 four times, made the NCAA playoffs three times and has one Final Four appearance in 2003. New head coach Brian Kelly, a member of Whittier’s ’03 Final Four team, will serve as the field director alongside Notre Dame’s Gerry Byrne, who will once again be the Clinic Director, for this year’s Adrenaline High Rollers.
Kelly is excited to host such rich talent at his school.
“We are very fortunate to be working with Adrenaline Lacrosse to bring High Rollers to our campus,” he said. “Hosting such a high quality recruiting event is certainly going to be a huge asset for our lacrosse program. Getting 250 of the best players in the West visiting our campus this fall will represent a tremendous value from a recruiting standpoint”
The seventh annual Adrenaline High Rollers will take place Nov. 20-22. This is the first of two highly touted Adrenaline “Primetime Recruiting Events” on the yearly calendar, the other one being the more selective Adrenaline Showcase, which some of the High Rollers players will qualify to be invited to attend in July. High Rollers has the top players from every pocket of lacrosse in the West attend based on coachs’ recommendations.
Players hail from Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Canada and Idaho. Many of the current western players that are on NCAA rosters have passed through this event.
The level of play has dramatically improved over the years as witnessed by Adrenaline President Alex Cade.
“Over the past few years the talent level has seen a tremendous spike which has been great for both recruiters and players,” said Cade. “Last year it was awesome to see not only the sophomores and juniors getting on coaches’ radars early but also seniors who had slipped through the cracks being picked up by coaches filling late holes in their recruiting classes.”
Format wise, players are split into teams amongst two divisions (Freshman/Sophomore and Junior/Senior) to compete in front of 40 NCAA recruiters, the majority of which are representing Division I programs.
Adrenaline’s VP of recruitment & team events, and former NCAA asst. Coach for Tufts Rory Doucette explains: “The way we have this event organized, coaches will be able to focus in on exactly what they’re here to find. Some guys are looking to finalize this year’s recruiting class, while others are already looking a year or two ahead. We remain focused on finding the right collegiate program for each player at this event, and this format helps us succeed in that.”
The recruiter list includes top DI programs: Army, Bellarmine, Brown, Dartmouth, Drexel, Duke, Fairfield, Georgetown, Hobart, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Robert Morris, Stony Brook, Syracuse, Towson, Maryland, UMBC, Denver, Vermont and Yale. Realizing that not every player is of NCAA DI caliber Adrenaline also has a handful of NCAA Divisions II and III and MCLA coaches on hand.
Advanced college-level clinics will be directed for the second year by Gerry Byrne, whose Notre Dame team comes off a 15-1 2009 season. Notre Dame is also the most successful western program at the Division I level, having made the NCAA Tournament nine out of the last 10 years including a Final Four appearance in 2001.
The combination of the top talent in the West and top-level NCAA coaches as clinicians has made this annual event a huge success and considerable driving force behind the massive explosion of western players emerging in the collegiate scene.
In true West Coast style, attending players are geared up fully by the appropriate Adrenaline Lacrosse sponsors. Players will be head to toe in the newly released 2010 Adrenaline Movement line. Additionally players will receive a pair of custom 2010 Warrior Burn cleats for participating.
Media partner Inside Lacrosse will also be providing coverage of this event on InsideLacrosse.com. As an added bonus players attending this event also qualify to be evaluated for Inside Lacrosse’s Young Guns National Recruiting Rankings.
