Lacrosse In America: The NB3 Foundation Supports Native American Sporting Traditions Such As Lacrosse (Video)
Lacrosse has been a popular college and Olympic sport in the United States for over a century, but many people are unaware of its roots in Iroquois tribes and Native American culture. The NB3 Foundation, working together with NCAA coaches, brought a group of Native American teens to the field one day to learn about the rules and fundamentals of the game, as well as its ties to their heritage.
Watch as these teens pick up the basics—right down to picking up the ball—and learn the sport’s history as an event prescribed by the medicine man within tribes. Many of the youth were inspired to look deeper into the history of the game, and to bring back the tradition within their communities.
The NB3 Foundation was established in 2005 to address the profound health and wellness issues impacting Native American youth and to empower those youth and help them realize their potential as tomorrow’s leaders. The NB3 Foundation Challenge began in 2008, bringing together top players from the PGA TOUR in order to raise money and awareness about the mission and efforts of the NB3 Foundation.
