The Verona Wildcats lacrosse team finished its season with a 17-5 mark and a state championship with 9-8 win over Marquette University High School on Friday night at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The game was a rematch of the 2010 championship game that Marquette won 10-4 over the Wildcats.
Thursday night, the Verona Area Boys High School Varsity Lacrosse team defeated the Wausau Wolfpack in the state semi-final game 12-4. That win clinched their bid to return to the championship game.
Marquette advanced to the finals by defeating Arrowhead High School 10-3 in a weather postponed game that finished on Thursday evening.
