Los Angeles High School Lacrosse: Redondo Girls Lacrosse (8-1) Defeated Rival Mira Costa 16-12 On March 29 To Remain Undefeated In Bay League

Allison Field scored four goals and played her usual strong game, but that was not what made this day so special for her and her teammates.

The senior was all smiles because Redondo defeated arch-rival Mira Costa, 16-12, for the second time this season and all but wrapped up a third consecutive Bay League title Tuesday at Redondo.

“To beat our rivals twice is awesome,” Field said. “To improve our chances at a Bay League title is great, too.

“That makes our season.”

The victory raised the Sea Hawks’ record to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Bay League. With a two-game lead over the Mustangs (6-5, 4-2), they are on track to become the first school to win three Bay League titles in the area’s brief history of girls lacrosse.

“We lost a lot of seniors, but the girls coming on the team have stepped up,” Field said. “We’re still getting better.”

Senior Julia Denney added three goals and three assists. Sophomore Allison Kotzbach and junior Brittany Ross each had three goals.

“We’re a stronger team now than we were earlier in the season,” Kotzbach said. “I know once I had some time playing with everyone I got a lot more comfortable.”

For Mira Costa, Redondo’s reputation as the best girls lacrosse team in the area made the defeat a little easier to swallow. The Mustangs were encouraged by the way they rallied from a 14-7 deficit, cutting it to 14-11 with 9:09 left.
