US Lacrosse Boys’ U-15 National Lacrosse Championship: FCA (Md./Ca.) Defeats For Love Of The Game (NY) 10-9 In Overtime To Win 1st Under-15 National Championship

 

Championship game: FCA 10, For Love of the Game 9 (OT)

Stephen Kelly scored two goals and 11 of 16 faceoffs to help lead FCA (Md.) to a 10-9 overtime victory over For Love of the Game (N.Y.) in the US Lacrosse U-15 boys' championship game.

Kasey Kapianos scored the game-winner in overtime as FCA (Md.) captured the inaugural US Lacrosse U-15 Boys’ National Championship beating For Love of the Game (Long Island, N.Y.) 10-9. The event, presented by Modell’s Sporting Goods, featured 32 teams from around the country competing over the last three days.

For Love of the Game trailed 9-4 with 7:57 remaining in the game, but then ripped off five straight goals to tie game 9-9 on Brian Ward’s goal with 1:47 left in regulation. FCA won the face-off in overtime, but turned it over to For Love of the Game. For the Love of the Game hit the pipe on a shot, but FCA gained possession and finally netted the winner on Kapianos’ goal.

Patrick Kelly led FCA with three goals and two assists and Stephen Kelly added two goals. Thomas McBride made eight first half saves while allowing just three goals for FCA. For Love of the Game was led by Robert Savage who had three goals.

Nick Fisher scored three goals and added an assist as Next Level (Md.) bounced back from its only loss of the tournament to beat NESLL (Mass.) 8-5 in the third place game. Graham Shue and Kylor Belistri added two goals each. Tate Jozokos led NESLL with two goals.

 

The Patriot Missiles (N.J.) outscored Long Beach 7-1 in the second half to claim the championship of the consolation bracket at the US Lacrosse U-15 Boys’ National Championship with a 13-7 victory. Jamie White scored both of his goals in the second half to lead the Missiles and Ryan Fritz also had two goals. Thomas Hamlet led Long Beach with two goals and an assist and Peter Marcote made 14 saves.

Top-seeded Next Level Lacrosse (Md.) was the only one of the top four seeds to advance to the semifinal round of the inaugural US Lacrosse Boys’ U-15 National Championship, presented by Modell’s Sporting Goods. Next Level defeated Greene Turtle (Md.) 9-5 in the quarterfinals.

 Next Level will meet FCA (Md./Calif.) in the semifinals today at 9 a.m. at Cedar Lane Sports Park. FCA defeated Primetime Lacrosse (N.Y.) 13-4 in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. The other semifinal this morning will pit NESLL (Mass.) against For Love of the Game (N.Y.). NESLL, the No. 11 seed, defeated No. 14 seed NVYLL (Va.) 8-4 in one quarterfinal while For Love of the Game easily handled the No 2 seed, Blackwolf Lacrosse (Va.) 15-5.

 The championship game will be held on today at 2 p.m.
